A weekend’s worth of ‘Meet the Artist’ at BIMA

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art will host two consecutive “Meet the Artist” events this weekend.

First, on Saturday, Dec. 15, painter Pamela Wachtler will visit the museum bistro from noon to 3 p.m.

Admission is free and no registration is required to attend this, an informal opportunity to engage and ask questions about her work, inspiration and process.

From Roby King Gallery: “Wachtler’s understanding of the silvery gray skies and waters of the Northwest are that which give her paintings a warm and enveloping feeling. The impressionistic qualities of this detailed and delicate artwork reflect the tradition of ‘The Philadelphia Ten,’ a group of painters educated in the early 1900’s at Moore College of Art … Reflecting this American Impressionistic style … Wachtler carries on this tradition. Her work has been described by critics as being ‘magical and mysterious within a strong compositional framework and rich palette.’

“Wachtler’s pastoral landscapes invite the viewer to pause — and walk down the lane … While her original monotype prints add a different dimension to her artistic expression, Wachtler delivers a sublime rendering of the Northwest landscape.”

Then, on Sunday, Dec. 16, painter Alfredo Arreguin will visit from noon to 3 p.m.

Admission is likewise free, and no registration is required.

BIMA’s current exhibition features more than 30 paintings, with an emphasis on Arreguin’s more recent productions as well as older paintings retained in the artist’s private collection.
