A new concert series on BI just for kids

Sing Along & Sounds, presented by the Bainbridge Community Piano Association, will have its first concert at 1 p.m. May 7 at the Waterfront Park Community Center.

A magical introduction to live music for kids, Sing Along & Sounds is for children up to 5-year-olds and their caregivers. Musical hosts Mike Derzon and Johnny Bregar will lead a 35-minute show including singalongs, education, movement and interactive play. A 30-minute pre-show offers families an opportunity to meet the musicians and play instruments.

Bregar is a seasoned family music performer. He is known for his engaging live concerts that delight kids and parents alike. He has produced, engineered, mixed and released six full-length kids/family albums and appears on four Putumayo compilations.

Derzon is a multi-instrumental performer and music educator, teaching K-5 music at The Island School on Bainbridge Island. After early training as a classical trumpet player, he branched out into jazz, folk and rock.

Guest appearances from other professional musicians will be included at each concert.

Sing Along & Sounds was a dream of association president Amelia Stewart. After having children of her own, she wanted to create a special experience to expose young kids to music in her hometown. Being raised in a musical household, she knew the importance of music at a young age.

Other concert dates are Oct. 1 and Dec. 10. Admission is $15 per ticket. For details go to www.singalongandsounds.com/

The association also has presented First Sundays Concerts, classical and jazz concerts, on the island for 17 years.
