We’re doomed if we don’t stop idling | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

We’re doomed. I can’t park in a lot on Bainbridge without encountering someone idling his or her car. Once in a while, I ask them to turn it off. This last Sunday, a man in a Lexus SUV (and what says mindless white privilege like a Lexus SUV?) said, “I appreciate your perspective, but we’re running our A/C right now.”

It was 66 degrees. If he hadn’t then rolled his window up so quickly, I would have asked whether he wanted A/C right now or his little child in the back seat to boil later?

If people on supposedly enlightened Bainbridge are thinking like this, what’s the attitude in some place like Oklahoma? I’m afraid that we’re just doomed. I’m going to carry on like we’re not, and I hope everyone else will too. Please don’t idle your car.
