Thoughtful leadership is desperately needed | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

My wish for Mother’s Day this year — that we all stay healthy in the age of Covid-19, and can take a measured approach to next steps. Yet we won’t see solid leadership from President Trump, who continues to sow discord and confusion as he prioritizes his reelection over everything else.

By contrast, Joe Biden is already exhibiting the thoughtful leadership we so desperately need: His proposals are science-based, and prioritize testing and tracking along with appropriate protection for medical workers and others on the front line.

As the economy re-opens, Biden proposes that skilled professionals from the private sector be brought together, industry by industry, to develop innovative methods to operate more safely. He recognizes we cannot rebuild America’s economy if the American people fear for their safety and health. As Biden states in his plan, “We should stop thinking of the health and economic responses as separate. They are not.”

I hope you will all consider Joe Biden when it comes time to vote in November. We need an intelligent, compassionate leader who can work to bring people together — not drive them apart.
