To the editor:
Please don’t stop printing the BHS honor roll because printing it damages the self-esteem of kids who don’t make it. That makes about as much sense as not printing high school sports news because many kids don’t make the team.
It is good for students to not make the grade or even totally fail and then be encouraged by parents and teachers to work harder. Self-esteem is built when students realize that through hard work, study and practice they can learn and progress, even if it is only in one subject.
Failure also helps students to find the skills and talents they have. Sometimes it is just being a nice, caring person. There are few rewards or recognitions in high school for academic achievement.
My experience with students from BHS over the years is that many do very well in life, whether they made the honor roll or the team.
