Our leadership has a cartoonish quality | Letter to the editor

Leadership is in part defined by words such as guidance, governance, captaincy and direction.

Our city government has brought us an expensive, unnecessary logo project that showed an utter lack of understanding of the tenets of marketing. They spent $100,000 dollars on a study to prove what most of us knew already: running our own power utility was a bad idea and now they bring us the bridge to nowhere funded to a meaningful degree by more of our property taxes.

If you haven’t lately, take a day and drive around the Island. Make sure you have a mouth guard in place or you will likely loose some fillings. Our roads are terrible and in some cases dangerous due to pot holes, grooves and dips caused by erosion and an infrastructure likely not geared for 24,000 people.

If the council would have spent some of this money on fixing our roads it would go a lot farther to connecting our neighborhoods than yet another ill-advised project that fritters away more of our tax money.

Guidance, governance and direction in a vacuum.

And as for captaincy, anyone of a certain age likely remembers “The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show.” There was a segment featuring a character named Captain Wrongway Peachfuzz. Google him. The similarity is striking.
