Educators appreciated

To the editor:

We on the Bainbridge Island School Board would like to thank the amazing educators striving day in and day out to provide our island’s students with opportunities to learn and grow into the leaders of tomorrow.

Our Bainbridge Island School District employees selflessly nurture scholars, athletes, and global citizens. They guide Model UN’ers and mentor roboticists. They edit the work of poets and guide the hands of woodworkers. They push our students to be better, stronger, faster, smarter, kinder, and more capable.

We thank them for their mentorship.

The work they’ve chosen is shoring up the foundation of our community. School is where our young learn of our history’s successes and mistakes. Where they learn the soul of America, and the responsibilities incumbent on its citizens.

Our educators help develop the perspective and critical thought necessary for progress. They celebrate success and help our young people overcome failure.

We thank them for their vision.

They model a life of service, celebrate knowledge, and in their very dedication and presence, teach our young people the value of kindness, passion, and hard work. Our educators show each young person their value, that they have support, they are cared for and perhaps most importantly, that they have the potential to grab life by the horns and take advantage of its endless opportunities.

We thank them for their compassion.

So we humbly ask our fellow islanders, in the spirit of BISD’s Staff Appreciation week, please join us in thanking our educators.

Thank you hospital

To the editor:

I would like to join Dr. Justin Penn’s praise of St. Michael’s Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting program. I have had a bypass operation performed by Dr. King about eight years ago at the old Harrison Hospital, and I have also been a patient at St. Michael. Every employee of the hospital was concerned with my physical and mental well-being, and their cheerfulness and empathy was such good medicine for me. I feel fortunate to have been surrounded by such caring staff.

I have nothing but admiration for the doctors, the nurses and the support staff at St. Michael for their loving support and their demanding work. Doctors and nurses truly make this world a better place. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all healthcare professionals.
