Hytopoulos defined by character, compassion | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

I first met Kirsten Hytopoulos a few years ago. Back then she was a small business owner and single parent who showed amazing compassion for me — a single parent who was struggling. She helped me as a new friend and community member because that’s how she is.

I was reminded of this meeting when she put her hat in the ring to run for council because it is a direct reflection of her character and compassion. I have talked to so many people since that first meeting who have had similar experiences. Kirsten just has this stunning ability to reach out to people, listen and help.

I got to know Kirsten a bit better recently as candidate Kirsten. She has spent nearly two decades tirelessly researching issues and advocating for our community — even when she wasn’t considering the council — because she cares. It seems her only motivation is her desire to use her experience to help the community she cares about so deeply — the community where we are both raising our children and hope to retire.

I am blown away by her knowledge of growth, our water challenges, natural resources, housing and at-risk youth. These aren’t recent issues of concern, but issues Kirsten’s been involved with for years.

From my own research, I know she was a real asset on council six years ago. I am so glad she is willing to run again and that I have the opportunity to vote Kirsten back onto council.
