Commit to finishing schools on Bainbridge | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

I’ve sent in my vote and voted for YES on schools!

This levy will help fund the much needed improvements for our schools and is required due to the rising costs of construction.

As a member of the construction industry for more than 30 years and president of Fairbank Construction, I’ve never witnessed a time so volatile and so challenging. We are plagued with ever rising costs for materials and labor as well as more complicated details, methodology and building requirements.

Working in Kitsap County we already are faced with a limited pool of qualified subcontractors and craftspeople and it has been recently impacted by the boom of projects in Seattle. It’s an unfortunate and unpredictable situation to be faced with escalating costs but we need to commit to seeing these projects through.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” (Benjamin Franklin)

Our kids are our future. If we really want to be leaders in education and continue to improve our community we need to support this levy.
