City power utility is a waste of time, money | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

Island Power likes to talk about the “benefits” of public power. But the group never mentions the time and expense to set up a city-run utility.

PSE has said its electric facilities on Bainbridge Island aren’t for sale. A condemnation lawsuit is now the only way the city can take over these facilities.

Last month, the Hittle firm issued its feasibility study. The firm said the city’s lawsuit costs — for high-priced attorneys and consultants — would be in the seven figure range. Hittle also said it could take three years to complete the lawsuit.

Why on earth would we let the city spend three years in court at a cost of millions of taxpayer dollars? Just say no!
