The Harbour Public House is showing paintings of its neighbor, “The Captain’s House,” by Wednesday Watercolor artists through mid-September.

The show includes 13 interpretations of the little white house with the flowered arch on Parfitt Way. Artists worked from location sketches as well as photographs supplied by the Bainbridge Island Historical Society.

The Captain’s House was built by Captain Ebnezer Franks and his wife Clara at the beginning of the 20th Century. Franks is remembered for co-founding the Eagle Harbor Transportation Company that carried passengers and freight on Puget Sound. In retirement he acted as the first Eagle Harbor dockmaster and supervised the construction of the first car ferry and the Eagle Harbor ferry terminal.

More recently, Margaret “Meg” Hagemann of Bainbridge Island, hosted guests for 30 years at the home which she renamed “The Captain’s House Bed and Breakfast.”

Starting in 2008, Wednesday Watercolor artists have painted at nearby locations each Wednesday. During the summer months they and invite other artists to join them for no-fee, paint out fun.
