Work set to begin on new NK Service Center

Facility expected to be complete by March 2025

With Mount Rainier looming in the background, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency investigates the Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site Aug. 3. Cleanup actions are needed in the soil and groundwater at the former Wyckoff wood treatment facility. Crews will do work from barges and during low tides on the beach. Replacing the metal sheet wall is part of the project, along with dredging and capping contaminated beach sediments. Excavated areas will be filled with clean sand. Fixes will be done in two phases over eight to 10 years, with it being finished by 2032. Steve Powell/Kitsap News Group
