Gray, defense too much for Raiders

Steven Gray scored 26 points in three quarters as the Bainbridge boys basketball team defeated Nathan Hale 79-43 Tuesday night.

The junior guard shot 9 for 16 from the field, including 4 of 7 from the three-point line, as the defense held the Raiders to 19 points in the first half.

Bainbridge hit the glass hard, as they grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and outrebounded Nathan Hale 35-22 overall.

Their hot shooting helped as well: 43 percent from the floor, 52 percent from three-point land and 83 percent from the free throw line.

Gray also had seven rebounds and three steals.

Theo Miller had 12 points, ten rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Caleb Davis and Nick Fling added eight points each.

Austin Wood grabbed six rebounds.

The Spartans played Seattle Prep yesterday. They travel to Eastside Catholic next Tuesday and Lakeside next Friday.

They return for the season’s home finale against O’Dea on Jan. 31 at Paski Gymnasium. Game time has been changed to 7:30 p.m.

Gymnasts score another victory

The Bainbridge High School gymnastics team scored its 80th straight win Tuesday, defeating West Seattle 154.5-129.3

Sophie Wenzlau placed second behind Chelsea Wirschem with 30.9 points in the all-around competition.

She was fifth on the vault, the bars and the beam and third on the floor.

Lauren Fleming finished third in the all-around with a score of 30.8. Her high score was a 8.4 on the beam.

Kathleen Callahan, Elizabeth Annis and Annie Zuckermann rounded out the all-around totals.

Marie Welsh particiapated in only two events before withdrawing with a toe injury.

The Spartans faced Nathan Hale and Ingraham yesterday.

They take on North Kitsap, Capitol, Sehome and Olympia at home next Friday. Meet time is at 6 p.m.
