Myron Allen, age 77

Myron Allen died May 20 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney from a heart ailment. He was 77.

Myron Allen, a native of Newark, N.J., was a 1955 physics graduate of Rutgers University. In 1973, he received a doctorate in electrical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.

A physicist who worked at the Department of Energy as well as in the private sector, Dr. Allen spent 17 years in the strategic petroleum reserves division at what became the Department of Energy before retiring in 1990. He then worked with Ford Aerospace and Computer Sciences Corp.

He spent much of his retirement on Bainbridge Island, before returning to the Washington, D.C., area in 2007. He was a resident of the Leisure World retirement community in Silver Spring, Md.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hannette Weinberg Allen of Silver Spring, Md.; children Laurie Bush of Midland, Texas, Karen Van Dyke of San Jose, Calif. and Bruce Allen of North Potomac, Md.; and six grandchildren.
