Eunice Mion, of Carlsbad, Calif., and formerly of Bainbridge Island, died peacefully on June 14. She was 93.

She was born on June 3, 1916 in Goldsboro, N.C. to Alonza and Elizabeth Wallace McDermon. She studied nursing at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where she met her husband, Angelo. During the war she drove trucks for the Navy in Panama backing torpedo warheads down narrow docks to the ships. After the war, they moved to South Gate, Calif., before settling in San Diego, where they lived for more than 30 years, followed by Necedah, Wis., and then Bainbridge Island. After Angelo’s death in 2002, she moved back to the San Diego area.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie Mion (David) Spooner of Bainbridge Island; children, Gregory Spooner and Angela Spooner (Shane) Hanson; and grandson William. She is also survived by her son, Ronald (Glenda) Mion, and his daughters, Nicole and Jessica.

A family Rosary and funeral mass were held on June 19 in Carlsbad.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. June 26 at Port Blakely Cemetery.

She will be buried alongside Angelo.
