Former Bainbridge Island resident Marian Martin Glass, 88, died Sept. 25 at Spokane Hospital.
She was born May 7, 1916, in Culdesac, Idaho, the youngest of 14 children. She attended school in Lapwai, where she played basketball and studied cosmetology.
She met her husband, electrician Larry Glass, when he brought electricity to Lewiston, Idaho, as part of the Rural Electrification Administration in the late 1930s.
During World War II, the couple worked on the construction of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
Through the years she lived in Bellevue and Spokane and on Bainbridge Island, first on Ericksen Avenue and later in the Winslow Arms Apartments.
In the mid-1960s, she owned the Village Beauty Shop on High School Road.
She enjoyed driving and took several journeys visiting many states. During her last few years on the island, she could often be seen riding her motorized scooter to the grocery store or out for a meal with loved ones. She was an excellent gardener and floral arranger, and enjoyed Scrabble and bingo.
She is survived by her son Donald, and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
