Rettig Ivan

Ivan “Joe” Rettig, 75, of Suquamish died June 21 in an industrial accident in Gardiner, Wash.

He was born Sept. 10, 1930, in Seattle, to Loris Oliver Rettig and Mabel Myra Julson.

He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1948, and served as an electrician’s mate in the Navy from 1951-55, aboard the USS Whetstone.

He married Janet Minert in 1960 in Suquamish.

He began his career as an employee with Poulsbo Electric and later became the company’s owner. He volunteered for the Suquamish Fire Department in his younger years.

He was avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and enjoyed boating and shrimping. He was a member of the Masons, Franklin Lodge No. 44 and the Kitsap County Dahlia Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

He is survived by his daughters Michelle (Tyler) Randall of Suquamish and Kathy (Mark) Craig of Aragon, N.M.; and grandchildren Matthew and Diana.

Services will be at 2 p.m. June 30 at the Stone Chapel in Poulsbo. Inurnment will take place at Cherry Grove Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Suquamish Fire Department.
