Kenneth M. Lemon, age 86

Kenneth Millard Lemon, of Suquamish, died at home on April 22. He was 86.

He was born on July 30, 1922 in Roslyn, Wash., and in 1949 married Dorothy J. Skiller. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.

He worked at Pope and Talbot Mill in Port Gamble on the greenchain for many years, then was a fork lift driver until he retired in 1989.

In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and camping. In his later years he enjoyed listening to the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, talking about the games to anyone who would listen.

He was a hard worker, splitting wood and working in the yard when he could. He dearly loved his dog, Meagan, and took her for short walks every couple of hours.

To many in Suquamish, he was known as “Grandpa.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Leon Lemon; one brother, Charles; four sisters, Mabel, Myrtle, Hazel and Bernice; sons Elmer D. Camelin and Gary D. Lemon; and one grandchild, David L. Lemon.

He is survived by the love of his life, lifelong companion Dorothy J. Rapp of the family home; daughters Nanette E. (Vince) Adams of Suquamish; Melissa C. (Phillip) Wilson of Jacksboro, Tenn.; son Philip L. (Christi) Lemon of Kingston; grandchildren Tammi Nelson, Shelly Dildine, Kenneth Camelin, Debbra Warren, Jerry and Terry Camelin, Christine West, Cindy Adams, Levi Mabe, Melissa, Jessika, Billy Mann and Teena Kennedy; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nephews and nieces; and many loving friends.

A visitation took place on April 29 at Cook Family Funeral Home, and a memorial service on April 30 at the Suquamish Community House.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the New Tribal Center.
