Jacqueline C. Engebretsen, 68, of Tacoma, died Dec. 10 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, of severe pulmonary disease brought on by years of cigarette smoking.
She was born Jacqueline Yvonne Brown on Aug. 23, 1935, in New York City to Lilli and Grant M. Brown.
She graduated from Marymount High School in 1953 and left New York for college at the University of Southern California, then transferred to the Los Angeles County School of Nursing. She graduated in 1969 from Santa Rosa School of Nursing.
She moved to Tacoma in 1970.
She retired after 27 years of service as a critical care nurse and Home Health nurse.
She had many hobbies including tennis, dancing, and cross-stitching.
She liked to deal “21” for the St. Joseph’s ball and the Elks Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bam “Doc” Engebretsen, daughter Anna Katrina Engebretsen, and stepdaughter Nina Engebretsen.
She is survived by her companion, Michael L. Kinney; daughter Chris Allen Hoch of Bainbridge Island; grandsons Alex and Sean Allen; granddaughter Katrina Hoch; and stepdaughter Carla Betina Engebretsen and her son Brennan Dougherty.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Home, 5436 South Puget Sound Street, Tacoma.
