Doris S. Harris

Published March 5, 2006

Doris S. Harris, 81, of Bainbridge Island died March 5.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Franklin and Florence (Renard) Simpson.

She moved from her childhood home in Philadelphia to Seattle in 1945 to work at the Bell Telephone Company.

She and her husband, Malcolm, moved to Bainbridge Island shortly after their marriage 41 years ago.

When Doris retired from working, she continued her commute to Seattle for her volunteer work at Harborview Medical Center and the American Diabetes Association.

Doris loved and was fascinated by the wildlife that visited their home in the woods. Only one of the many traveling trips Malcolm planned could lure her away from her observation post of woodland animals and birds, or her beloved dog, Holly.

She was preceded in death by her three older brothers. She is survived by her husband, Malcolm, of Bainbridge Island; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. March 18 at the family home, 10895 Skinner Road on Bainbridge Island. For information, call 842-9577. All who wish to attend are welcome.
