Walter L. McMullen

Former Bainbridge resident Walter L. McMullen of Poulsbo died Oct. 27. He was 78.
He was born to Art and Cleo McMullen in Yakima in 1927, and the family moved to Bainbridge Island in 1934.
He joined the Marines at 16 and was awarded a Purple Heart before leaving the service in 1950. He worked for Pope and Talbot on the tugboat Pioneer from 1971-1986. Upon his retirement, he raised Christmas trees at M&E Farm on Bainbridge until 2004.
He was an avid flyfisherman who was a master at the art of fly-tying and loved fishing with his wife, Geri, and his dog, Julio.
He is survived by wife Geri McMullen of Poulsbo; son Craig (Debbie) McMullen of California; daughters Elizabeth Grossman and Heidi (Mike) Fitzmaurice, both of California; brother Orville McMullen; and sisters Lois, Betty, Carol and Colleen.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the family home.
