David Murtagh Gallagher, of Poulsbo, died on May 3 at his home. He was 61.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1948 in Dublin, Ireland and had lived in the Poulsbo area for the past 10 years and in the United States for 21 years, having moved from Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.
He was a member of St. Olaf Parish in Poulsbo, had friends around the world and was a devoted father to children Hugh and Aoife. A real gentleman who cherished his family and friends, he loved telling stories and talking about the “Old Country.”
He loved sailing and the water and had just moved into a beautiful new home in Poulsbo overlooking the water, where he was planning on mooring his boat. He enjoyed dancing and driving his vintage Mercedes. He was great with his hands and could fix anything.
He is survived by his children Hugh (Summer) Gallagher and Aoife Gallagher; his brother, Antoine Gallagher; his aunt and uncle, Kathleen and Stanley Power; his former wife, Eavanne O’Donoghue; and cousins Derek, Murtagh, Aileen, Chris, Rosemary, Mary, Stan, Joyce and Niall.
A Recitation of the Rosary took place on May 8 and the Mass of Christian Burial on May 9, both at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Interment was private.
Memorial contributions can be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Poulsbo, (360) 779-9980; St. Olaf’s Catholic Church; or Helpline House, 842-7621. Arrangements are by Cook Family Funeral Home. An online guest book is at www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
