Anne Kristie Childers died March 26 in New York City in the presence of her family after almost a year’s bout with small-cell cancer. She was 32.
Anne was truly a lively and driven spirit all of her life. She will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her parents, Mary Terry and Frank Childers of Bainbridge Island; sisters Katy Childers of Seattle and Claire Childers of Brooklyn, NY; grandparents Frank Childers Sr. of Bainbridge Island and Berna Dean Terry of Chickasha, OK; 13 aunts and uncles, including Stu and Wendy Childers of Bainbridge and Suzanne Terry of Norman, OK; and 17 close cousins and treasured extended family.
She was born Aug. 9, 1976, in Seattle and moved to Bainbridge Island with her family in 1979. She attended Wilkes Elementary School and Commodore Middle School while over indulging in her passion for skateboarding. She commuted to Garfield High School, where she lettered in multiple sports, graduating in 1994.
She began college that fall at New York University, where she earned many honors in lightweight crew and graduated in film studies in 1997. She had worked as a production manager in film, TV and commercials.
Anne was funny, creative and confident and counted her sisters as her best friends. She was a unique blend of cool and retro as exemplified when after high school she got a full-color tattoo of Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie on a hip. She was active all of her life, enjoying surfing, softball, yoga, biking and snowboarding.
A memorial will be held on Bainbridge on a date to be announced on childersbi@gmail.com. The family is thankful for all love and support offered during her illness. Remembrances can be sent to Gilda’s Club, 1400 Broadway, Seattle WA 98122.
