To the editor:
As a Bainbridge Island lawyer with a civil litigation practice representing injured persons I have known Justice Charlie Wiggins professionally for more than 30 years.
He was the lawyers’ lawyer for the many years he was in private practice before he was elected to the Washington Supreme Court in 2010. His practice specialty was appellate advocacy and lawyers from all over the state of Washington sought him out to represent their clients in their appeals. He has represented hundreds of persons in all appellate courts in this state. No other lawyer in this state enjoyed his reputation as an appellate advocate.
He is a recognized legal scholar and historian. Many lawyers will remember Justice Wiggins’ lectures on Constitutional law in the Washington Bar Review Course preparatory to taking the Washington State Bar exam. He has also lectured extensively to lawyers in continuing legal education courses, public schools and civil groups.
He also travelled to Albania as a part of an American delegation of lawyers working with and training their judiciary on the importance of the independence of judges after their defeat of communism. He has been endorsed by every state Supreme Court Justice and more than 100 state judges in this current re-election campaign. He is a leader on the Washington State Supreme Court.
Anyone interested in further information about his qualifications should go to votingforjudges.org and investigate the qualifications of the two candidates for this position.
His opponent has never argued a case in the Washington State Supreme Court and has virtually no support or endorsement within the Washington State Bar Association or from the judges of this state.
Unfortunately, in this judicial race a trio of Washington billionaires have put up $350,000 in an attempt to buy this election for Justice Wiggins’ opponent.
I urge my fellow citizens to not be fooled and vote for by far the most qualified candidate, Justice Charlie Wiggins.
