The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued an excessive heat watch from Thursday afternoon, Aug. 16 through Friday evening, Aug. 17.

Officials said the two days will likely be among the hottest days of the year.

The watch covers most of Western Washington, including Puget Sound and all of Bainbridge Island.

Forecasters said the Western Washington interior will see high temperatures into the 90s on the afternoons of Aug. 16 and Aug. 17. Temperatures in the low- to mid-90s in the Seattle area are expected.

The National Weather Service said the combination hot temperatures and high humidity can create the dangerous possibility of heat illnesses; residents are being advised to drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun.
