Bainbridge bested 50-35 in postseason football game

The Bainbridge High varsity football team was defeated last Friday 50-35 in their initial postseason outing against the Interlake Saints.

The Saints gained an early lead, jumping ahead 13-7 in the game’s first quarter.

The Spartans put up the same seven in the second, and Interlake answered with 15 of their own, leaving the BHS squad on the wrong side of a 28-14 score at the half.

In the third, Bainbridge gained no ground and the Saints put up another 14, bringing the game to 42-14.

The fourth quarter was Bainbridge’s best by far.

The island squad outpaced their host 21-8, but it was too little, too late.

The postseason loss, the last game scheduled this year for the island team, left the Spartans with a 2-9 overall season record (1-5 in conference) and the sixth place in the Metro Mountain standings.

Spartan touchdowns in the loss to Interlake were scored by Sam Wysong (two), Eric Jung (two), Keagan Barnes-Grant (one) and Coltrane Brooks (one).

Wysong led the Spartan rushing game, finishing the night with 28 carries for 126 yards.

Jung had 10 carries for 77 yards and Nick Nordberg managed three-for-four, as well.

It was Jung who topped the stats in receiving, though. He claimed five receptions for 89 yards.

Aiden Carlisle managed two-for-29, Brooks chipped in one-for-19 and Nordberg one-for-18 for BHS.

Defensively, Sam Roth led the team with six solo and one assisted tackle. Ben McDonald managed five solo and one assisted tackle, Jung had four solo and two assisted, including one sack for a loss of eight yards.

Jospin Ometepe managed two sacks for a 12 yard loss.

Tanner Shattuck was perfect, going five-for-five in points after touchdown kicks.
