Kaye Gough of Banbridge Island died on February 17, 2026 from Alzheimer’s disease. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Kaye was born in Great Falls, Montana to Ralph and Leona Caskey. She was raised in Choteau, also home of the Pulitzer Prize winning author A.B. Guthrie. Growing up she worked summers in Glacier Park and spent a year off in college working in Innsbruck, Austria.

She earned a journalism degree at the University of Montana, where in her senior year she served as editor of the student newspaper The Kaiman. Journalism remained one of her passions. Kaye joined two partners to open Magic, an art gallery in Missoula, Montana. She loved to celebrate the artists and match customers with art she thought would best suit their tastes. The gallery transitioned to a gourmet kitchen products store in the 1980s in Southgate Mall. A local business gem amongst the chain stores.

In 1978 Kaye married the love of her life, Newell (Sandy) Gough III at Flathead Lake, Montana. In 1979 they had their daughter Anne who was lucky to grow up with two loving parents who also loved each other. In 1989, the Gough family moved from their close-knit community in Missoula to Boise, Idaho. Kaye became an independent sales representative with several gourmet kitchen lines. She traveled frequently around Idaho and to Utah, Montana and Wyoming. Along the way she made lasting friendships with small business owners, who like her were devoted to enlivening their communities.

In 2010 she retired and in 2012 she and Sandy moved to Bainbridge Island. Kaye loved living a short ferry ride from Seattle. She and Sandy enjoyed Earshot Jazz concerts and the Seattle Art Museum. A loyal attendee of Silver Sneakers and the Senior Community Center, Kaye appreciated the pace of life on Bainbridge Island.

Kaye was deeply devoted to her family and friends who will always remember her sense of humor, her strongly held opinions and joy in hosting guests. One of her last favorite things to do was to hold her grandchildren’s hands on walks. Kaye is survived by her husband Sandy, daughter Anne (Jesse) and grandchildren Rowan and Lennox Leona. A Celebration of Life gathering is planned for May 3 from 11-1 at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center.
