Winslow is looking sensationally sparkly these days, and Bainbridge Islanders have one person in particular to thank.
Downtown has taken on a marvelous holiday glow, with all the businesses on Winslow Way topped with a fantastic frosting of white lights. If you haven’t visited during the dark hours recently, please do — Yule Be Impressed.
Bad puns aside, we’ve been told the idea is to keep those bulbs burning bright — from 4 p.m. till midnight — every day through the winter months.
Most islanders, however, may not know the dandy decorations weren’t the work of the local chamber or the downtown association.
Instead, the festive force behind the project was Karin Lehotsky, owner of Lollipops Boutique in the Winslow Mall.
Karin — who readers may remember as a finalist for “best community volunteer” in this year’s Best of Bainbridge awards — went door to door downtown, contacting every Winslow merchant for help with the big project. She ordered supplies, found electricians, convinced each business to chip in to pay for the decorations, and more.
The rest is now holiday history.
Bainbridge is blessed to have people like Karin in the community, and Winslow merchants and businesses deserve our tremendous thanks for banding together to make the season more enjoyable for all. Well done, and we ask readers to give their thanks, and support this holiday season, to our downtown merchants.
