A north Bainbridge home was destroyed in a early evening blaze Tuesday, but no one was at home at the time of the fire.
The home, on Peterson Hill Road, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Flames nearly 45 feet high quickly raced through the structure, and firefighters from the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, Poulsbo and North Kitsap departments were called in to battle the blaze.
Peterson Hill Road was closed to traffic while firefighters doused the fire.
Assistant Chief Luke Carpenter of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department said crews were at the scene all night to put water on hot spots.
No firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the Bainbridge department said it may be several more days before the cause of the blaze can be determined.
