Bainbridge museum presents Bainbridge History 101 tonight

Do you wonder why that old piling is still standing just offshore and what it once was for? Why do old-timers talk about a store, dance hall and post office that once stood where there now are homes? Do you know the favorite camps of the Suquamish when they canoed to the Island’s beaches from Old Man House?

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is hosting an evening exploring the early settlements on the west side of Bainbridge. Seabold, Fletcher Bay and Crystal Springs all had small but vibrant communities that grew up around early steamer landings.

Join Joan Komedal Bickerton, Karen McCormic Beierle and Reid Hansen as they share pictures and stories of these early settlements.

The free event will be held in the museum’s research library where those attending will also learn how to search photo, biographical and subject files in the museum’s vast collection.

“Bainbridge History 101” is 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 23 at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum, 215 Ericksen Ave. NE.
