Roy V. Durbin

February 17, 1945 – September 14, 2012

Roy passed from this earth just like he passed through life, fist’s raised, ready for the fight, and never losing his sense of humor. His last known act was to tease his friend/sister in law and make her squeal with laughter.

He was a gypsy at heart living life with gusto. Throughout his life he worked from the oil fields of Texas, thru every job imaginable and even fished on the Alaska fishing vessels. Always working hard, he had the strength of an Ox and was proud of it. Roy was an “ Ornery character”; If he liked you, he loved you. But that did not mean he was going to make it easy for you, he would still pick on you and sass at you but at the heart of it, he would do anything for you if you were friend or family.

A celebration of life was held in August with all of his brothers and sisters, their spouses, several nieces and nephews, some good old Bainbridge friends, friends he made traveling thru life, and friends from his most recent home on Camano Island. We ate, sang, laughed, cried, ate more, and sat around a bon fire and reminisced with Roy while he was still in good spirits and up to entertaining us all.

Roy will be missed by his brother’s Richard, and Roger and wife Pat, sisters Dottie with husband Frank and Ilene and husband Jim, all of his nieces and nephews, one who wants those crazy glasses he always wore and peeked over. And his many friends from all up and down the west coast and especially the amazing friends on Camano who helped him through these last few months and who we, his family cannot thank enough for their kindness’s.

He is off now to see his parents Virgil and Margaret and brother Bob who passed before him and to fish and joke with them. Bon Voyage little brother, uncle, friend.

Contributions if you wish should go to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Everett, WA 98201.
