Fire crews respond to Wing Point Drive home

Bainbridge Island fire crews responded to a fire at an Eagle Harbor home Tuesday.

A house on Wing Point Drive caught fire and spread its blaze to a tree on the same property.

Four fire trucks and an aid car were called to the scene. Fire crews were able to knock down the fire within 20 minutes of the initial call, and remained over the following hour putting out hot spots that continued to flare up.

The home on Wing Point Drive overlooks Eagle Harbor and is located behind the Wing Point Golf Club. It is currently under construction for a remodel. It was not occupied at the time of the fire.

A neighbor initially noticed the smoke and ran over to find the source. He noticed that a piece of Bobcat heavy machinery had caught fire, spread to the home, and onto a large tree. The neighbor immediately called 911.

Firefighters responded to the call at 7:24 p.m. By that time, smoke from the blaze was filling into Eagle Harbor and could be seen at the Winslow waterfront.

The home has been left charred at its west end, from the basement to its second story. A tree standing approximately 30 feet tall had been burned up to its top.

Fire Chief Hank Teran said that firefighters have not yet been allowed into the building as the structure is unsafe to enter due to the damage from the fire.
