The Bainbridge Island Kiwanis Club will host their third annual “Summer Challenge” bike ride on Sunday, Aug. 26.
Organizers of the challenge said serious riders will be challenged on the ups and downs of two routes, 34 or 52 miles, and occasional riders and families can enjoy a less hilly 16-mile route. Riders familiar with the popular “Chilly Hilly” will appreciate the similar course, but in the mild August weather.
“Participants in the two previous rides were exuberant about the scenic ride routes and the excellent refreshment stops. Word is getting around, and the number of riders has increased each year,” said Jim Snook, “Summer Challenge” chairman. “Last year we gave riders free blackberry sundaes at the end of ride, and it was so popular we are doing it again this year.”
Snook also invites participants “to ride at their own pace through urban, suburban and on country roads, and to stop anytime they feel like sightseeing.”
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time, and all proceeds from bike ride registration fees will be used to fund Bainbridge Island youth programs and community projects.
