It’s coming. A flash of cold hard green that will descend upon Winslow and target one local business. Paper Products, Etc. is about to get mobbed.
A “cash mob” to be more exact. The event, generally organized through email or social media such as Facebook, is designed to steer shoppers into local businesses and spend their money. The surge of paying customers supports community businesses and the local economy.
“It’s a grassroots promotion using social media to stir up interest and support,” said Terry Arndt, co-owner of Paper Products, Etc.
Mobs are organized by people all over the country. In the island’s neck of the woods, Kitsap County Cash Mobs has formed to organize the supporting events for local businesses.
Paper Products, Etc. has been selected for a cash mob event and it is expecting a wave of shoppers to crash into the island store on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28.
Paper Products, Etc. is getting prepared for the rush. Arndt is also giving a little extra to customers who support the store during the mob event.
“Those associated with the cash mob get $5 off their purchase of $25 or more,” Arndt said. “Plus, they get a coupon for the same deal the next time they come in.”
