The latest reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

Thursday, May 17

10:08 p.m. Police received multiple reports of a truck driving recklessly around Winslow Way, peeling around corners and nearly hitting other vehicles. One witness reported that the truck was “doing brodies” (also known as doughnuts) in the parking lot of the Town & Country Market. The truck was then observed outside a local bar.

Police contacted the driver inside the bar. He said that he was excited because he just graduated college, and that his tires had slipped a bit on the wet road, but that it was unintentional.

Police ran the man’s name and they discovered he was a convicted felon for a hit-and-run involving an injury. He had only just recently had his driver’s license reinstated.

Police investigated the incident as reckless driving and forwarded the report to the prosecutor’s office with a recommendation that the man be charged.

8:30 a.m. A resident on Greenspot Place reported said mail had been stolen and valuable information had been taken. The resident’s neighbor found the mail nearby. An envelope was torn open and a personal check was stolen from inside.

12:14 p.m. A resident on Hidden Cove Road reported the theft of mail. The material stolen held sensitive personal information on the resident’s clients. The resident had placed the mail in the mailbox the previous night, but when the resident went to the box the next morning to place more mail inside, the previous mail was gone.

Sunday, May 20

8:34 a.m. Police responded to call of a domestic dispute on Madison Avenue between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. When they arrived, the boyfriend had already left the scene.

The girlfriend said that the two were experiencing a stressful situation with their infant daughter and they had begun arguing. She said that there had been no violence during the argument, though when the man left he allegedly threatened to make her life miserable and also allegedly said that he would burn the house down.

Police were unable to locate the boyfriend. They provided the girlfriend with information about restraining orders and encouraged her to call 911 if there were any future incidents.
