The Bainbridge Island City Council has approved the appointments of islanders Kate Kelly and Jon Quitslund to the city’s planning commission.
Kelly is a former state senator and deputy attorney general for the state of Idaho. She now works with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Quitslund is a retired English professor and has been active with Sustainable Bainbridge since 2008. He previously applied for the commission but did not make the final cut during the last round of interviews.
He has since remained interested in the commission’s work and has attended its meetings. His persistence paid off as his appointment was approved.
The commission reviews the city’s comprehensive plan, zoning ordinances and provides other advice to the council. It recently completed its recommendation on for the city’s updated Shoreline Master Program that is now being considered by the council.
