The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association has been honored with the Excellence on Main Award.
The Excellence on Main Award is presented by the Washington State Main Street Program. It honors communities and organizations such as the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association that support the economy of downtown main streets.
The downtown association has helped to preserve and stimulate the island’s downtown along Winslow Way.
The Main Street Program noted the association’s uphill battle in tough economic times, coupled with its efforts to support downtown during the Winslow Way construction project.
The downtown association was also feted for the Winslow in White event held last August, as it served to unify the island community and remind visitors and locals alike of the importance of downtown.
The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association was one of eight organizations honored this year. Other winners were the ART Garden Party in Moses Lake; Port Townsend; Java & Clay Cafe in Gig Harbor; historic downtown Prosser; downtown Chelan; Ellensburg; and the Charles Smith Wines World Headquarters.
