Frances E. Griffin
September 6, 1924 – December 12, 2010
Frances Edith Griffin passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 12, in Yuma, Arizona at the end of a day’s activities doing what she so loved to do: being with her husband Bud as they traveled in their motor home to spend the winter on the beach in San Felipe, Mexico.
Frances was born in Flushing, Michigan, one of nine siblings who have all preceded her. She and her sister Helen joined the Navy WAVES together during World War II, which took them to the Seattle area. Frances moved to Bainbridge Island in 1955 and loved the Island life, commuting to work in the city as a payroll manager at Pacific Northwest Bell. In raising her daughter she always found a way to support and help with activities, including horse shows and school projects. Frances and Dewitt (Bud) Griffin married in 1968 and they spent years designing the family home and creating a lovely park-like setting in Port Madison, complete with green space and a nature pond. They traveled extensively around the world after they both retired from Pacific Northwest Bell, and the visits to China and Africa were among Frances’ special favorites. Bud and Frances also loved to travel in their motor home, visiting 49 states over the past 25 years, often accompanied by friends and family.
Frances was active with the Children’s Hospital Bargain Boutique, donating her time and energy at the store and at many fund raising events. She loved tending her beautiful lush gardens and her genuine passion for hospitality and entertaining enabled her to share her talents as a gourmet cook and expert party-giver. Frances was a dear and trusted friend to family and friends who came to depend on her pleasant spirit and good humor. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her beloved husband Bud Griffin, and her loving daughter Cynthia Lund of Marietta, Georgia. A private memorial service will be held; e-mail messages may be sent to Cynthia Lund.
