James Charles Glass

James Charles Glass, of Bainbridge Island and Suquamish, died on June 6 while visiting family in Wilmington, N.C. He was 63.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1945 in Iron Mountain, Mich., to James H. and Violet H. Glass. He was a third-generation woodworker and craftsman; growing up in Lewiston, Idaho, he worked in his father’s shop, learning the trade.
He married Mary Ellen Goans, also of Lewiston, in August of 1965. Shortly afterward, he took a position with the O.B. Williams Company in Seattle; he and Mary later made their home on Bainbridge Island. He retired in November 2008.
Jim was ever-present in his son’s and grandson’s activities. He loved people, and was passionate about serving others. He enjoyed sharing his faith and telling stories, often humorous anecdotes, while taking the offering during services at New Covenant Fellowship. He was also active in and served as a leader of a Kitsap County Christian Men’s Roundtable.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sister Marjorie (Gale) Wilson; two sons, James D. (Lisa) Glass and Kelby (Heather) Glass; eight grandchildren, Will, Nicole, Tal, Zac, Christina, Jared, Noah and Luke; and his former daughter-in-law, Sandy and her husband, Scott.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. June 19 at Christ Memorial Church, 18901 8th Avenue NE, Poulsbo.
