Debbie Denise Horner, of Bainbridge Island, died on May 26. She was 47.

She was born on June 1, 1961 to Lowell and Wonda Hammond in Caldwell, Idaho. After graduating from high school in Twin Falls, Idaho, she earned a degree in fine arts and graphic design from Boise State University.

Debbie began enchanting everyone she knew from a young age and could make a friend for life in minutes. Her social spirit carried over into everything she did, and she had the unique ability to make those around her smile and laugh abundantly.

Debbie met her husband, Scott Horner, in college; they married in 1983. In 1985 they moved to Bainbridge Island, where Scott began working as an architect. For 20 years they owned and operated BIOS, LLC, a planning, design and construction company specializing in nature-center-related facilities including aquariums, zoos and nature centers. Debbie brought to the company her keen financial savvy and talented graphic design background.

She was also extremely creative as a watercolor painter and a talented illustrator. Boating, cooking and gardening were just a few of her other loves.

She is survived by her husband, Scott, and son Skylar Lee of Bainbridge Island; parents-in-law Max and Johnnie Horner of Kingston; brother Rick (Julie) Hammond of Twin Falls; sister Danielle (Damon) Gardea of Lacey, Wash.; her grandmother Myrtle Hammond of Caldwell, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a full array of close friends.

At the request of the family a private service was held on May 31 at Kiana Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Progressive Animal Welfare Society/PAWS, www.paws.org. An online guest book is at www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
