Paul C. Amis, of Bainbridge Island, died on March 29 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 17, 1925 in Los Angeles, the son of Frank and Bee McClurkin Amis. He served as a U.S. Navy radioman in the South Pacific during World War II. He attended West Coast University College of Engineering in Los Angeles, receiving a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1951. He retired in 1981 as assistant chief design engineer for electrical and electronics engineering in the Puget Sound Navel Shipyard, Pacific Division, in Bremerton.

He was known for his wit in speech and letters but was a man of many talents. He was a life-long ham radio operator – W7RGL – a gourmet cook, stained glass window creator, carpenter, and gardener. He also raised chickens, which he called β€œthe girls.” But his delight was his 10 Welsh Corgis; he was often seen walking a trio on Ferncliff Avenue.

Paul is survived by his wife, Dorothy; he was her love and companion of 43 years. From a previous marriage he has a son, Matthew V. Amis (Kelly) and a daughter, Paula Amis.

Cremation and burial at Port Blakely Cemetery are by Cook Family Funeral Home. There will be no memorial service. Any personal remembrance may be given to the Salvation Army or Disabled Veterans.
