Jessie Smith died March 19 in Hansville. She was 90.
Smith was born to James and Ann Smith on Oct. 8, 1918 in Nanaimo, B.C.
Smith married Grover H. Smith in San Francisco on Sept. 6, 1938. They made their home in West Seattle where they raised their three children before moving to Hansville in 1966. She enjoyed “creative” cooking and gardening and, in the early years, salmon fishing. She cherished her family but beyond that had a sincere love of people that made any outing a social event.
She was deeply grateful for her wonderful neighbors and many friends she made through TOPS, the Solitarians, Hansville Ladies Aid, Hansville Community Church, and as keeper of the Skunk Bay Lighthouse.
Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Grover, in 1994 and her son-in-law, Gary McKenzie, in 1992. She is survived by daughter Sharon McKenzie of Tahuya, daughter Jimene Smith and husband Alan Clasens of Bainbridge Island, son Grover W. Smith and wife Joanne of Poulsbo, her grandson Bill McKenzie of Belfair, grandson Rob McKenzie and wife Kelli of Gig Harbor, granddaughter Sharyl Maesner and husband Rick of Gig Harbor; great-grandchildren Carly and Mitch Maesner and Hunter, Haden, and Emmalee Mckenzie.
A graveside ceremony was held March 28 at the Hansville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hansville Ladies Aid, PO Box 23 Hansville, 98340 or to a charity of your choice.
