Donald Cheyney

Donald Dean Cheyney, Sr., of Suquamish, died on March 14 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was 74.
He was born on May 30, 1934 in Glenwood, Iowa, and had lived in Washington for the past 69 years.
He attended Givens Elementary School in Orchard Heights, and later graduated from Peninsula High School. He played varsity baseball, basketball and football for three years of high school, and attended Olympic College.
He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Port Orchard and a member of The Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Active Club, Active International, and the Local #26 Plumber’s Fitters Union. He coached city league basketball and the Cheyney Studs Softball team. He also belonged to the Gallon Blood Club.
He is survived by his his wife, Ivy M. Cheyney; his children, Vicky L. Doyle, Lily M. Stockwell and Michael Thorn Cheyney; his brother, Thorn Cheyney; his grandchildren, Charles T. Houghan IV, Mandie Houghan, Levi J. Doyle, Trevor (Bruhn) Stockwell, Ivy Hembrook, Charles Stockwell, Katie Anne Stockwell, Richie Stockwell, Rochelle Stockwell, Donald Cheyney, Tanner Cheyney and Kayanna Cheyney; and his great-grandchildren, Sky Houghan, Baby Charles Hougan, Sophia Stockwell, Gracie Stockwell, Wyatt Stockwell and Jackson Sampson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thorn Cheyney, Sr. and Ruby Marie Cheyney; son Donald Dean Cheyney, Jr.; siblings Beverly Miller and John Cheyney; and granddaughter Marie Houghan.
