Blanche Klein

Blanche Klein, 82, died June 10 at Martha and Mary Nursing Home in Poulsbo.

She was born in 1923 in Johnstown, Pa., to Charlotte and George Getz.

Around 1940, she went off on her own to Philadelphia to attend and later graduate from Jewish Hospital, now known as Albert Einstein Medical Center, as a registered nurse.

She worked as a nurse at a community hospital and was also public health nurse for her county in Michigan.

She spent her adult life in California and Michigan, moving to Poulsbo in 1998 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Klein, in February 1996.

She is survived by her brother, David, of New York; daughter Esther Klein-Johnson of Bellevue; son Mitchell Klein (Debbie) of Stanwood; daughter Gail Chafe (Randy) of Poulsbo; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. June 14 at Port Blakely Cemetery on Old Mill Road on Bainbridge Island.

A reception will follow immediately after the service at her daughter Gail Chafe’s home, 1041 NE Holm Court in Poulsbo.
