Anna Mary Monk

Anna Mary Monk, 96, died Dec. 10 at Hearthstone Retirement Home in Seattle.
She was born Oct. 11, 1909, in Pauls Valley, Okla., to Clinton R. and Cora Etoile Gantz. The family moved to Ferndale, Wash., around 1916-18.
She married George Edwin Monk in 1941. They lived in Seattle and weekended on Bainbridge Island until 1951, when they settled at Port Madison. She moved to the Hearthstone in 1988 to be near her daughter.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Seabold Orthopedic Guild and was known for her artistic hooked rugs and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Monk; her brother, Robert Gantz; and her daughters Josephine (Nate) Helman and Judy (Larry) Wade.
She is survived by her daughter Isabel Monk Mays Van Valey; son Robert Edwin (Dora) Monk; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held with arrangements by Evergreen-Washelli. Contributions may be made to the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
