Published November 19, 2005

Former Bainbridge Island resident Glenice Rae Dubois died Nov. 19 in Colville, Wash., at the age of 69. She was born on March 20, 1936 in Wenatchee to Charles E. and Thelma M. (Seabrant) Collins.

She moved with her family to northeastern Washington where she attended grade school in Addy, junior high school in Chewelah and then Colville High School, where she graduated in 1954.

On June 18, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald P. Dubois. The couple moved to Pullman where she worked to support the home and her husband as he attended college.

His graduate studies took them to Pasadena, Calif., and while there, she attended Pasadena Community College. This move was the start of a succession of moves, which led them to Charlottesville, Va., Rockville, Md., and Portland, Ore., in 1962.

While in Portland, she gave birth to their son, James. Two years later a daughter, Jacqueline, was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland.

She enjoyed her work in the home as she raised her family and supported the needs of her husband’s career. As the wife of an officer, she spent much of her free time entertaining guests at their home.

In 1969 they moved the family to Denver, Colo., and she began working in the real estate industry. She continued her real estate interest following their move to Bainbridge Island in 1976.

While on Bainbridge Island, she earned her broker’s license in 1984 and worked as a campaign treasurer for state legislator Karen Schmidt.

After living in Shelton for 10 years, she settled for a time in Spokane and most recently found solace in her return to Colville.

She was a devoted mother and wife, and her compassion extended to her love for animals. She enjoyed time shared with family and friends and within the furrows of her garden.

She will be remembered for her commitment to ideals and strength of character.

She is survived by her son, James Dubois of Lisle, Ill.; her daughter, Jacqueline Scolaro, and her husband, Daniel, of Norfolk, Va.; her two sisters, Janis LeCaire and Terry Burch, both of Colville; her brother, Barry Collins of Stoneville, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Addy Grange Hall in Addy. Memorial contributions may be made to charity. Arrangements are by Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
