Irene Charles Mapanao

Irene Charles Mapanao, 84, of Bainbridge Island died Oct. 9 in Bremerton.
She was born May 4, 1921 in White Rock, B.C., Canada, to Bernard and Mamie (Wilcox) Charles. She married Isidro Mapanao on July 15, 1942, on Bainbridge Island.
She was a homemaker, and farmed strawberries and raspberries. A member of the Filipino American Community of Bainbridge Island, she enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, crocheting, yodeling and singing.
She is survived by sons Ernesto Charles (Lori) Mapanao of Suquamish, and Bernardo Charles (Sallie) Mapanao of Poulsbo; daughter Bernadine Mapanao (Leon) Slesinski of Bainbridge Island; brothers Willard Charles, Jimmy Charles and Bernard Charles, and sisters Eleanor Chilstrom, Mabel Charles, Margaret Thomas, Barbara Calder and Virginia Charles; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Ben C. Mapanao; brothers David Charles, Richard Charles; and sisters Mary Charles, Bernice Cook and Clara Campbell.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Stone Chapel in Poulsbo. A second viewing at 10 a.m. Oct. 15 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island, followed by the rosary at 10:30 a.m. and funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Island Center Cemetery on Bainbridge Island.
