William W. Castonguay

Former Bainbridge Island resident William W. Castonguay, 70, of Federal Way, died July 30.
He was born Jan. 15, 1935, in Boone, Iowa, to William Blanchard and Esther Young.
He served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and after retiring, enrolled in the University of Washington’s Physician Assistant Program.
He graduated from that program in the early 1970s, and worked at Bainbridge Island Medical Center as the first physician assistant on the island. He went on to work at Group Health, retiring from practice in 1991.
He enjoyed travel and ocean cruises, watching sports, playing games on his computer, playing with his cats and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Federal Way; sons Scott of Des Moines and Mark of Renton; and four grandchildren
Private inurnment will be at Tahoma Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the local animal welfare chapter, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
