Donald W. Carey

Former Bainbridge resident Donald W. Carey died July 24.
He was born Oct. 17, 1918, the only child of Elmer E. and Florence M. Carey.
He grew up in the Lake City area of Seattle and graduated in 1937 from Lincoln High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith V. Carlson, the same year.
He and his wife lived on Bainbridge Island until recently.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years; his sons, Larry and his wife Jeannie Carey, David and his wife Jeannette Carey; daughters, Janet Sturham, Dawn Marie and her husband John Harmon; nine grandchildren, Rich and Rob Carey, Kimberley, Michael and Nichole Carey, Gretchen and Arnold Sturham, David and Robert Cox; and five great-grandchildren, Janie and McKensie Carey, Owen and Ryan Sturham and Meike Sturham-Kuhn.
He was a member of the local Coast Guard Auxiliary, Chaplin of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and a life member of Local 76, Musicians’ Union. He loved boating, woodworking, boat building in particular, and his music.
There will be no memorial services by his request.
