Patricia M. Martin

Bainbridge Island resident, Patricia M. Martin, age 54, died April 23 at her home, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born Sept. 9, 1950, in Spring Valley, Ill., to Samuel and Modesta (Negri) Baker.
After attending Illinois Valley Community College, she moved to Seattle in 1972.
She married James Martin in October 1975. They lived in several locations in the Northwest, including aboard their 36-foot sailboat, Adelma, before settling on Bainbridge Island in 1986 to raise their family.
Patricia dedicated more than 10 years of her adult life to raising her two daughters before returning to work. She worked as a para-pro educator in the Bainbridge Island School District after volunteering in the schools for years. She worked for five years as receptionist at the Bainbridge Island Racquet Club before retiring due to health reasons.
She was also a volunteer at the Children’s Orthopedic Thrift Store in Winslow, and attended Unity Church on Bainbridge Island.
She is survived by her husband, James, and daughters Lily Martin and Lucy Martin, all of Bainbridge Island; and brothers, Jerome Baker, Denver, Colo., Emil Baker, Chicago, Ill., and Richard Baker, Vista, Calif.;
A memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.
